The Spring 2012 sale was so much fun. We've gotten more familiar with the new space and the sale was not only smooth and easy, it was the best quality we have had. The consignors were awesome and it was a joy to do. There was even a consignor who brought 143 items and sold everything. Can you imagine selling everything? Several did.
Thought you might like to see some pictures from this sale. We did have boys' items, promise. Guess for me, it is all about the spring dresses. As the momma of three nearly grown boys, I tend to get distracted with the pink.
We are tentatively having the next sale starting with drop off on September 3 at the same location. We'll update this site early August. Hope you all have a safe summer and we look forward to seeing you after school starts.
Here's the info from the last sale...
Welcome!
You did it!
We had the biggest sale of 17 years.
Let's do it again!
Children’s Treasure is a semi-annual, multi-family (450 plus families) sale of children’s items. We typically have the
sale in February and September in any given year and are separate from any other consignment sales or stores.
Our goals are the same today as when we started this sale 17 years ago: to provide the
best quality, brands and condition. We do this by not having workers compensated through organized
presales before the participant presale. One of our primary goals is to keep quality items in the presale
for our participants who are to be commended for consistently bringing the quality, brands (speciality boutique [smocked],
Ralph Lauren, Gap, Gymboree, Children’s Place, Janie & Jack, Ragsland, Kelly Kids, Matilda Jane, Biscotti, cach cach, uniform brands and many, many more) including a variety of sizes 0 - Jrs.
When we started this sale in 1996, our children were small. They are nearly grown and we have an excellent selection
of teen/young adult sizes in the brand names: Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Hollister, American Eagle, Abercombie, Limited Too! and more.
Although this is a children’s sale with hundreds of young families participating, please don’t over look shopping the teen sizes.
We are very proud of our selections infant to young adult.
We welcome new families to “consignment sale land.” The process can be confusing. Once you have participated a couple
of times, all the hows and whys tend to make more sense. We try to address any questions that could come up in this
web site. Often times I am distracted during drop off and may not fully understand and/or answer your questions.
We will try to explain the best we can verbally; but it is easier to focus on your specific question and answer it fully
through e-mail/text. We appreciate your patience during this hectic process.
This sale is still run the old fashioned way. We sort the cards you fill out by hand and recheck each one of them. When you come to the official
pick up, your items are sorted, envelopes ready with your cards of sold items, two addition tapes and payment.
You price your items, usually 1/4 to 1/3 the original retail price. **You receive 70% of the price you set as this
sale is a 70/30 split.** There is a $8.00 participation fee that helps with the numerous expenses.
We are always thankful for the participants that continue to bring items that we are excited to offer. We accept the usual items that have “no holes, tears, stains, missing buttons or out-of-date.” Please be mindful of the Maury County dress code and bring any solid colored polos and non-cargo style khaki or blue jean style shorts/pants that you may have.
Note Recent Changes
- Being back at the Columbia Mall these last few sales has been wonderful. We have grown quite a lot since moving to the mall and are excited to be there again. We will be in the front of the Columbia Mall using the spaces directly to the right of the former Sears. Last fall's sale sold an even higher percentage of your items due to gained visibility from the front and interior of the mall including the former Rex space which has storage spaces equal to the visible retail space. When you drop off, your large items (baby equipment, furniture & large toys) go in the former Arcade space to the left of the mall entrance and your clothing and small items go to check in on the right. More than ever, coming back to see what has been moved around or added to the sale would be a really good thing.
- Because of the size of the sale and expenses more than doubling, coupled with problems with “sort-your-own” early pickup for such a high number of participants; we made some changes last spring that worked out really well. We added a selling day and an additional 20% discount during the last two hours of that day. Children’s Treasure is a consignment sale with a 70/30% split with the 20% discount coming out of the Children’s Treasure’s 30% (not your 70%). Many came out way ahead with this new policy and made more than the participation fee during those two hours. The 20% off sale was a lot of fun. People were really excited to get even better bargains and we sold an additional $2,000 worth of your items. This also helped the workers with the resorting by participant numbers quite a bit. I still like the “sort-your-own” policy better, but it’s just not doable with such a high number of participants. This new discount has proven to be a really good alternative for the time being. To help with the expenses, the participation fee is $8.00.
- There are some participants who would like to get their leftover things earlier than we can prepare for the pick up. You may check out your items on Monday, Feb. 27, 5:00-7:00 p.m. or Tuesday, Feb. 28, 5:00-6:00 p.m. only. Your items will not be organized and the fee will still apply.
- We accept cash or checks. We will charge a $25.00 bad check fee and will pursue bad checks through the legal system.
Golden Rules
- Bring things in excellent condition priced the way you would be more than happy to pay.
Several where overheard in the pre-sale line discussing how they had tricked various sales into accepting damaged items.
Drop off is not a game to see what can be slipped past a worker. We are on the same team (workers, participants and buyers).
How is it ever a good thing to trick a fellow participant into buying a damaged item? Thank goodness, out of hundreds of participants,
there are only a hand full that purposefully try to misuse consignment sales.
To help discourage this, we have the following policy: If you purchase anything electrical, please write the code of the person
you purchased the item from. We will be more than happy to accept a return on Sun. or Mon. of the sale (after most of the cards are sorted) of
damaged items if we have the code to track down the purchase. This serves two purposes: 1. it rights a wrong; and 2. lets the person
that brought it know we will not sell defective items. Please double check DVD/VHS cases to make sure the movie is there and in the correct
box and we'll do the same while setting up on Thurs.
- During the pre-sale, please do not take large sections of garments from a rack - give everyone a chance. No strollers or baskets/any other large containers.
There is a holding rack in the front, beside the checkout. This rack is for items you know you are going to buy and space is somewhat limited. Remember,
treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Things that help to make checking out easier/faster.
Line up single file behind a side of a checkout rack. (We'll show you.)
While you are waiting in line, you are welcome to pull your tags off loose items you know you are buying. A worker will take the cards off
the clothing you are purchasing. (Cards facing the same way is always a nice thing.)
The worker will ask if you have any large items and will get a total count of all items you are purchasing. That number must be the same
number of cards added by the cashier. We can't finish checking you out until those two numbers match. Sometimes the worker will ask you
to remember that number so they can move on to the next customer. It is rare, but if the numbers don't match, the problem is usually
a missed card or a large item not included in the count. Sometimes customers have one person buying two groups of purchases or two people
buying one group or even that special purchase for a child already in the fond embrace of the new owner. You are welcome to help with any
trouble shooting while we are trying to get that magic matching number.
